How to Count Google Adsense Clicks Yourself

Have you ever wondered if the Adsense clicks reported on the analytics at the Adsense website is accurate?

Do you want to count Adsense clicks yourself to make sure they are right?

There is a way to count Adsense clicks yourself without the help of Google Adsense analytics or Google analytics. You can use statcounter or other statistics software to see the outgoing clicks and easily find out to which websites the outgoing visitors are going and hence find out the exact number of Adsense clicks your blog has got in a day.

I have tried this method to determining the number of Adsense clicks I got in a day to compare with the number of clicks that is reported by Google. I found something strange….

There were always a lot less number of clicks shown by the reports at Adsense than the number of clicks I found using a stats software.

Why was this happening? Is Google reducing the number of clicks reported to make a better profit? Are there other reasons for this?

It so happens that there are a few reasons why this difference in clicks reported can happen. Let us take a look at these reasons….

Invalid Clicks

Some of the clicks, at-least 10% of the clicks will be considered as invalid due to the fact that it may have been mistakenly clicked by a visitor, or the visitor may have hit the back button as soon as clicking an ad etc.

For these reasons the clicks will get reduced sometimes.

CPM Ads

Google Adsense is a mixture of CPC+CPM ads, because of this Adsense ads do not display CPC ads 100% of the time, they do show CPM ads as well.

For CPM ads, it does not matter whether you are getting clicks or not.It only matters whether a visitor sees the ad. So these clicks would not be counted.

Errors

Sometimes, a few clicks get missed because of reporting or tracking errors in Adsense, this has been minimized as much as possible in the last few years but it is still possible to miss clicks.

Overall, you can compare the two reporting of clicks and expect to have a 30-40% difference in the number of clicks.Which may seem a lot but it is fair towards the advertisers.
